Boost Your Immunity From The Inside Out

Strengthen Your Immune System With Plants

In light of the recent events, I thought I share an excerpt from an article that one of my health conscious friends shared last night on Facebook.

It's worth the read and reinforces that eating a plant strong diet is one of the very best things we can do to boost our immunity during this time of uncertainty. And regardless if the hype is exaggerated or not, I think we could all benefit by strengthening our immune systems.

The following is excerpted from Your Essential Guide to the Coronavirus: The Power of Plant-based Protection by Kathy Pollard, MS.

The Magic That Protects Us

"Sure, wash your hands before and after everything, (traveling, eating, touching). Then know what fights viruses in our bodies: antioxidants and phytochemicals taken in from food, whole plant food. We don’t get these magic molecules that protect us from meat, eggs, dairy or fish; these foods don’t have them. We get them from leafy greens, colorful vegetables and fruits, packed with nutrients and antioxidants that shield our cells from the forces that degrade them, including bacteria, viruses and toxins that can promote cell damage and aging.

The most effective way to protect against coronavirus and any other viral or bacterial attack once contracted is by building a robust immune system and a healthy gut. That means getting in both nutrients and fiber from whole plant foods. Fiber is what feeds our healthy gut microbiome and boosts our immune system."

Plant Power

And for the record, I am not a vegetarian and I have no plans to become one or to start avoiding animal products. I'm not sharing this article to promote any style of eating other than one that is rich in colorful plant food.

The bottom line is that there is immense power in plants. They help make our immune systems strong from the inside out. So why not use this as an opportunity to intentionally increase our consumption of them?

Here's to good health and strong immune systems! Now go eat those veggies - salad for lunch anyone?!
